I got a Launchpad Pro to use with the Tonverk and a few apps on my phone. I knew the Tonverk wouldn’t talk to it via USB, but I was hoping I could use the spare USB C port to power it. When I tried it, it didn’t work, but it turns out that it depends on the cable. Apparently a better cable isn’t necessarily the right cable.
A white Apple cable like the one that comes with the phone works, as does the Elektron cable that comes with the Tonverk and the cable that comes with the Launchpad Pro. Can’t recommend that one though as it’s really stiff. All of those would have been good choices, but a while back I decided to buy a couple Anker Nano USB C cables because they’re silicon jacketed, really flexible and limp, so they’re easy to coil and lay flat when I want them to. They’re rated for 240W, and all the extra wiggles and jiggles so they’re better, right? Well, they’ve worked fine for everything until now. They won’t power the Launchpad Pro. Nope, won’t do it. They’re the one I started with, and it was only when I tried again using a different cable I had lying around did I find out that it was the cable.
After getting a tester, I believe it is the PD 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1 standards that make the difference – the cables that don’t have them according to the tester work, and the Anker cables that do have them don’t work.
However, all the cables work with a powerbank, so maybe it’s really just a Tonverk thing.
